Dr. Ben Medrano's approach is a unique blend of evidence-based complementary alternative or “integrative” medicine with transpersonal psychology viewed, in part, through the lens of Buddhist theory of consciousness as well as modalities used within psychedelic assisted therapy frameworks.
He takes a collaborative approach towards tailoring an individualized, evidence-based care plan that includes lifestyle adjustment, therapy and medication when warranted.
As a compliment to therapy, he encourages and provides in-depth instruction on mindfulness techniques for coping and self actualization. He also provides ketamine assisted therapy either individually or in partnership with other therapists and providers.

The initial consultation may run from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the complexity of the issues at hand. A thorough medical and psychiatric history will be collected to address the issues presented.
At the end of the session recommendations and a treatment plan will be offered. Sometimes this may be a referral to a more appropriate treatment setting.
Medication prescriptions are sometimes but not always written in the first session. Psychotherapy will usually begin in the second or third session after an initial history has been collected.
Dr. Medrano earned an MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine's Urban Underserved Track in 2014, prior to completing his Psychiatric Residency at Mount Sinai Hospitals NYC in 2018. Years of service within community psychiatry, including the East Harlem Assertive Community Treatment team, kindled a desire for greater impact and meaning as a healer. This led to his current specialization in integrative psychiatry, psychedelic harm reduction, and ketamine assisted therapy.
His approach is influenced by in depth training in integrative psychiatry, psychedelic & ketamine assisted therapies, and over 20 years of intensive study and meditation within the Buddhist community. Dr. Medrano is a devoted contributor to the current paradigm shift in mental health and is passionate about the role of consciousness in healing.
